Overall, I probably carry a couple hundred dollars in die grinder tooling, and replace it as needed. I keep some worn ones as well as new ones, as they fit different spots. Again, handy for spot cleaning, especially in a corner. I also keep a few point brushes in the kit. might have a few zirconia in there as well) The kit was the mid-price assortment from MSC (or maybe McMaster Carr.). I keep a small kit with several types and styles (boron nitride, silicon carbide, and alum oxide, as well as a couple tungsten carbide formed tooth for when soft materials. Rarely need mounted stones, but when they are needed, they are indispensible. Used for things like spot cleaning for ultrasonic thickness testing, light weld prep, such as the end of a rod, etc. Go through anything, decent finish, not real aggressive. Next is flap wheels, followed by spiral rolls. Expect to need to shake out chips from your clothing. Wear ey protection, preferably that keeps chips that get on your forehead from dropping behind the glasses. The cuttings come off at a zillion miles per hour, get everywhere, and are sharp. The go to tooling for me includes carbide burrs (round nose and christmas tree shapes) in a couple sizes. The little kit has a ton of tooling for the odd jobs. Handy for real tight spaces, when I need to use small tooling, do fine work, use diamond tooling (the 1/8 shank diamond burrs and 1/16 shank diamond burrs are a lot less expensive than 1/4" shank), etc. A bit bigger and heavier, but more power than any of the small air units. Nice when no air, tight spaces where the exhaust from the air unit is a problem (oil mist carryover), places where NO oil can be tolerated, and when it is real cold- the air jobs get chilly. Half the power, lower air consumption, lower speed, gets into awkward spots well. Second is the 1/4" air powered right angle head. Main difference is that the vanes hang up and the vane springs break more often in the generic ones.
The generics use a moderate amount of air with pretty good power, the IR uses a little less air and has a bit more power, but for the most part, I don't worry which I use. My go to grinders are air powered 1/4" straight jobs (mostly generic, one second hand IR).
